Fusion Energy Base RFQ Portal: Connecting Fusion Machine Developers to the Fusion Supply Chain

by Shaun Walsh | Feb 3, 2026

The commercial fusion industry is moving rapidly toward commercialization with new plant construction announcements from CFS, Helion, Type One, and many others. This shift requires more than just breakthrough physics; it demands a sophisticated, integrated supply chain capable of delivering high-precision components at scale.

The Fusion Report had a chance to sit down with Sam Wurzel, Founder of Fusion Energy Base, to discuss their latest announcement of a new RFQ (Request for Quotations) Portal, which positions the platform as the online connector of fusion machine developers with the fusion supply chain. Fusion Energy Base is creating an ecosystem where fusion machine manufacturers, systems integrators, and component and services suppliers can accelerate time-to-commercialization and drive cost-competitive deployments.

“We see this platform as a first step towards opening a web-based conduit between fusion companies, national labs, and university labs with the fusion supply chain. The long-term vision is an integrated marketplace for growing the fusion supply chain.” says Sam Wurzel, Founder of Fusion Energy Base.

Fusion Energy Base RFQ Portal: Overview and Announcement

The newly launched RFQ portal is a centralized hub designed to streamline the sourcing of materials, components, and services. The system features “Get Quote” buttons at each level of the supply chain directory; the system allows developers to post specific technical requirements directly to suppliers best positioned to fulfill them. The Fusion Energy Base team then distributes these RFQs to all supply chain companies within the indicated subcategory. The portal is designed to provide:

  • Visibility: Fusion development often involves highly specialized parts with few global manufacturers. Developers can now share technical needs with a comprehensive database of international suppliers, moving beyond existing personal networks.

  • Efficiency: Suppliers no longer need to navigate fragmented industry networks to find work. They can identify and respond to opportunities that align with their specific manufacturing capabilities in real time.

Target Users & Applications

The portal is designed for a multi-tiered user base, including fusion machine developers and researchers at national laboratories seeking specialized products and services. Secondary users include supply chain companies seeking subcomponents or specialized materials to fulfill larger contracts. By using the portal, engineers can efficiently solicit quotations from a wide range of suppliers for hardware, software, and specialized services.

Business Model & Affiliate Program

Fusion Energy Base has structured the portal as a marketplace for fusion makers and suppliers, accessible through free account creation, which allows engineers and procurement teams to receive RFQs at no initial cost.

For vendors, the Fusion Energy Base is actively promoting its Supply Chain Affiliate Program, inviting organizations to increase their influence within the fusion community and strengthen the supply chain ecosystem. Affiliates receive a suite of tools intended to increase market share and visibility:

  • Company Interviews & Profiles: Detailed newsletter profiles and featured interviews to showcase technical expertise to the broader industry.

  • Enhanced Visibility: Top ranking in the supply chain directory and a yellow verification checkmark to signal credibility to developers.

  • Direct Sales Integration: Enhanced company pages featuring self-descriptions and direct sales contact information.

  • Targeted Outreach: Access to the Sales Email Listing and priority placement on the Fusion Jobs Board to attract specialized talent.

Supply Chain Strategy -  FIA and SCSP Perspectives

The launch of the RFQ portal is well aligned with other industry programs and calls for action in response to the strategic warnings issued by the industry’s leading policy and research bodies. Two reports that highlight the urgency of this infrastructure:

  • The FIA Supply Chain Report 2025: The Fusion Industry Association (FIA) revealed that supply chain spending surged 73% in 2024 to $434 million. However, the report also found that 63% of companies are concerned about supplier availability as the industry scales. The FIA emphasizes that "greater knowledge" and market visibility are critical to giving suppliers the confidence to invest in new capacity.

  • The SCSP "Fusion Forward" Report: The Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP) warned that the U.S. is at a "critical turning point" and risks losing the commercialization race to state-backed competitors. The SCSP calls for "strategic actions to build robust supply chains," arguing that the nation that first masters this industrial ecosystem will gain a decisive global leadership advantage.

  • The Fusion Advanced Manufacturing Parity Act, often referred to as the Fusion Manufacturing Act, is a bipartisan, bicameral legislation introduced in late 2025. It aims to solidify the domestic supply chain for fusion energy components through tax credits, reassuring stakeholders of government backing and stability in the industry's growth.

    • 25% Production Tax Credit: Provides a 25% credit for the domestic manufacturing of qualifying fusion components sold through 2031, with a phase-down through 2034. The bill explicitly defines critical parts of a "fusion energy machine," including:

      • High-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets and wire/tape.
      • Fusion chambers and plasma vacuum vessels.
      • Blanket systems and fusion heating systems.
      • High-voltage capacitors and specialized dielectric films.
      • High-energy laser systems for inertial confinement.

By providing a unified marketplace, Fusion Energy Base is effectively building the "innovation power" called for by the SCSP. This digital backbone enables an allied-nations ecosystem to out-maneuver state-directed models through transparency and speed.

Why It Matters for “The Fusion Report” Readers

For stakeholders following the fusion business, this announcement is a clear signal of industry maturation, signaling a move beyond bespoke “one-off” laboratory builds towards scalable manufacturing.

“While the industry is racing to build its first-of-a-kind systems, early engagement and development of the supply chain is vital for the fusion industry to scale and manage sources across an allied nation's supply chain.” Mike Heumann, Principal Analyst at Ignition Research.

Establishing the first steps towards an “Amazon-like” sourcing system is not just a convenience; it is a fundamental requirement for scaling up the fusion economy.
